Szechuan in Orlando
Do you like spicy food? I mean really spicy. Do you also like Chinese food? Then Szechuan food is for you, and we have it in Orlando.
On Colonial Avenue, close to mills, there is a restaurant within a restaurant called Chuan Lu Garden. It is a small restaurant that is connected to a a larger regular Hibachi – Chinese – Sushi place, same people, but very different cuisine.
A fair warning, you must really like spicy food, I mean love it, Szechuan food redefines spicy. I think they could make an Indian cry. This not your run of the mill American Chinese fare, this is the real deal.
I took my sister with me to eat here, and I said to myself, “Hey, I can handle this. How spicy can it be?”
The food was great, I ordered the Lazi Jiding (basically a mountain or dried red chilies with some fried chicken pieces) and my sister a fish and noodle soup.
Everything was fantastic, but the heat, I mean the deadly heat, neither of us could finish the plate.
For our untrained pallet the food was inedible. A real shame.
Does this mean I don recommend the place? Nope, I actually do recommend it, just be aware of what you are getting yourself into.
As for me, I do think I will return, but this time I will order even more beer to try to cool my mouth with.
